Exo 6:2
And the Mighty One spoke unto Moses, and said unto him, I am YHWH.
This was the third time in Scripture when YHWH introduced Himself to an individual. The first recorded time He came to a person introducing Himself as YHWH was with Abraham. Gen. 15:7.
And he said unto him, I am YHWH that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
The second time was with Jacob. Gen. 28:13.
And behold, YHWH stood above it, and said, I am YHWH, the Mighty One of Abraham your father, and the Mighty One of Isaac: the land whereon you are, to you will I give it, and to your seed.
YHWH indeed revealed His name to the patriarchs, promising them and their descendants a Homeland. This short introduction is repeated four more times in this chapter, starting in Exo. 6:6.
Therefore, say unto the children of Israel, I am YHWH, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments.
Although He could have just taken His people out of Egypt right away, He opted to show signs, wonders, and great judgments. He did this so that they too would know that He is YHWH. Exo. 7:5
And the Egyptians shall know that I am YHWH when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
This short phrase, I am YHWH, can be found a total of 152 times in the Hebrew Scriptures. It later appears in the introduction to the Ten Words given at Mt. Sinai. Exo. 20:2.
I am YHWH your Mighty One, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Above all else, He wanted the Israelites to know that He was the One who redeemed them from slavery. His identity is very often linked to His process of redeeming His people, sanctifying them, and becoming their Mighty One. This is perfectly capsulated in Lev. 11:45.
I am YHWH who am bringing you up out of the land of Egypt to become your Mighty One. And you have been sanctified, for I am sanctified.
Finally, His identity is entangled in the everlasting Covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Lev. 26:44-45.
And yet for this [consequential curses], when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my Covenant with them: for I am YHWH their Mighty One.
But I will for their sakes remember the Covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their Mighty One: I am YHWH.
